Purchasing Agent

Job purpose

Reports to Director of Operations/ Director of Sales

The Purchasing Agent is tasked with sourcing and obtaining all raw materials and MRO required to meet our production schedules and run our business, while staying within budget/costing guidelines.

Duties and responsibilities

Work closely with Operations and Inventory Control departments to establish guidelines and procedures for purchasing department. Source and purchase raw materials and supplies to meet production schedules. Find, evaluate and qualify approved suppliers and vendors. Manage, communicate with and review Suppliers. Facilitate resolution of quality issues with suppliers. Manage RFQ’s, negotiate with suppliers on individual and blanket orders. Actively seek cost reductions, improved quality and adherence to required delivery dates. Manage open purchase backlog and notify Sales and Operations of any expected delivery issues. Complete purchase orders using designated software and maintain data base for accuracy of price and delivery information. Manage Purchasing Assistant.

Qualifications

High school Diploma or GED in addition to equivalent experience(s) that would facilitate the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities. Prior purchasing experience, ability to read drawings/prints and an understanding of fasteners and mechanical components required.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team environment is a must.

Working conditions

The majority of time will be spent in an office environment with additional time spent in the Factory or Inventory Control area.
